SUMMARY: Manage the acquisition process for Canadian Government Collections. Locate potential sources; select titles to be included in collections; act as liaison with libraries or other suppliers, both U.S. and abroad, to ensure receipt of materials and film on an ongoing basis; maintain integrity of the databases. Responsible for preparing fiche headers and title sheets for microform products. Work with suppliers, inspection staff, and filming vendors to ensure that publishing and release schedules are met. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Acquire film or documents from various outside sources for inclusion in ongoing or new research collections. Coordinate document filming with supervisor of film inspection staff. 2. Research bibliographies and databases to determine best sources for titles based on established criteria regarding cost, contractual obligations, and availability of resources at source locations. 3. Establish and maintain working relationships with supplier libraries in the U.S., U.K. and elsewhere. 4. Plan ongoing units based on product requirements and title availability; work with the catalog librarian if appropriate to search for new titles via bibliographies and online searching; order titles. 5. Update acquisition system with new titles, contact names, addresses, royalty or shipping arrangement changes, or any other relevant information required to process or maintain the product. 6. Provide support to marketing, publishing, order control, sales, and customer service by answering questions regarding the content of collections, checking and updating catalogs and price lists, and assisting on projects as needed. 7. Coordinate activities with Publishing to identify and evaluate sources for new acquisitions. 8. Establish and maintain positive working relationship with NAPC and other film vendors. 9. Perform all editorial tasks, including keying data, as required to create fiche headers for product. 10. Maintain the databases of titles by product, creating a login procedure, maintaining publisher contacts, working with NAPC on shared serials titles. 11. Research and evaluate accuracy of title identification of both new and existing titles in ongoing collections. 12. Determine system needs and work with systems department to enhance software capability. 13. Participate in conferences to keep abreast of developments, identify new sources, and showcase UMI products. 14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
